Chapter 7: The Sounding of the Call
Discussion Questions:
1.) London describes Buck's dreams of the primitive man: "The salient thing of this other world seemed fear." What does he mean by this? Why would that be true? Why isn't Thornton's world filled with fear? I think London means by this is that somethings in life that you fear of most. It might be true because I fear most things and I have to face it. Thornton's world isn't filled with fear because he used to have Buck to protect him from harm.
2.) Why is Buck intent on befriending the wolf? What makes him break off their travels and return to camp? What does this say about Buck's place in the world? Buck is intent on befriending the wolf because he loves Thornton and wants to be with him before one of them passes away. It says that he will have to start a new life without man in his life.
3.) What does Buck's fight with the bear and the moose display about his embrace of the call? Why do you think London included them in the story? What predictions can you make about Buck's future? For his anger that John Thortan died without him and he does not want to be with humans again. London includes them in the story because it is his prey to hunt down. That he will be a good pack leader in his new pack.
4.) What does Buck learn from his slaughter of the Yeehats? Does this make his answering of the call harder or easier? Explain. That he should never be alone or they might attack the ones he love the most. Easier because what else would Buck do in his life
5.) Does the book have a happy or sad ending? Explain your answer. What do you think London would say? I think it has a sad and happy ending because Thornton passes away and Buck is sad that he is gone. A happy ending because Buck lives where he belongs to not a true dog but not a true wolf.

4.) Create your own "song of the pack" based on what you know about Buck's new wolf brothers.
Two is better than one our brothers shall always stay as brothers
Nothing will change in our past and future
Running slowly in a empty forest brothers are near and
never will let go
