This week was Ash Wednesday, so we went to church yesterday to get our ashes on at the end of the day. We made our lent promises and mine are personal so I won't say what I am giving up for lent this year. Every year since I was little I have always gone with my family or friends to get our ashes on together. It was a nice memory. For 40 or 46 days I will been my lent promises because Jesus was in the dessert for 40 days, so we do this to sacrifice something because Jesus sacrificed his life for us. One Lent promise that I will say is to try to stay away from candy, because I love candy but it is also very unhealthy to eat. So I am giving that up. I still have some candy from Halloween. Some of it might have expired but it's only the candy that I don't like. I will try to keep this lent promise by replacing candy with another thing that is very healthy to eat. Since lent just started I might give up something else for 40 days. I really think that I will give something up. I don't think that people will notice that I have given up eating candy, maybe my friend might but she will only know that because I would have told her that I have given up candy. I think that giving up candy might help me but not really. Most years in the past I have given up candy for lent. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. I think that this lent this year is special because it is a the year of mercy, that is what Pope Francis said. I hope that I can keep my lent promise for 46 days.
