The brain stem is an important part of the brain because it helps you breath, helps your heartbeat, blood pressure and connects the nerves to the brain.Right underneath the the limerick system is the brain stem. It is 2.5 centimeters long. The brain stem has three parts the pons, medulla, and mid-brain. Each have different purposes. The pons helps send signals to other parts of the body. The medulla maintains body functions such as breathing and heartbeat. The mid-brain maintains hearing, motion and vision. The brain stem is connected to the spinal cord and supports basic life. Animals have brain stems that are in the process evolving. As you can see without the brain stem we could not survive.
