"The Lottery" Summary
In the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson takes place in a small village during the early summer, June 27. It tells the story of a village full of town people, a town who doesn't want to change their traditions that were made a long time ago. Some of the town people must fight against their tradition to achieve this goal. First, it starts of as a town that is getting bigger. The town has a tradition that a black box with all their names of the families or households in the town. In other towns it takes 2 days but in this town it doesn’t it takes less than four hours. After that, the men of the families must go up and pick a card from the black box. The children and women must watch and sees what happens. Next, Shirley Jackson introduces more characters in the short story such as Tessie. Doesn’t wants to change this tradition and some people think its very foolish to think of that. Finally Tessie stands up for her husband after his name being called and saying it that it was fair. The town’s people threw rocks at her and came closer to her and soon Tessie was dead. As the story ends people learn their lesion and not wanting to change the tradition.
