Pope Saint John Paul II was born on May 18,1920 in Wadowice Poland. Pope John Paul II's birth name is Karol Józef Wojtyła. He was baptized on June 20,1920. When Karol was 9 he had his first Communion. As a child he was the youngest out of three kids. When he was young his father died from a heart-attack . He died on February 18,1941. "His father was a non-commissioned officer of the Imperial and Royal Army." His parents are Karol Wojityla and his mother is Emilia Kaczorowska. Pope Saint John Paul II's religion is Roman Catholic. He got his education at Jagielloian University. Some people named him "John Paul the Great".
When he was young he was a volunteer librarian. He also served his country in the military, but he refused to hold or shot a gun. Also, he was an athlete and a play write. In November 1, 1946 he became a priest around the age 27 .He was ordained a bishop in 1958, was appointed archbishop of Kraków in 1964, and was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 1967. Pope Saint John Paul II went to 129 countries where no Pope had gone before. "He was tireless in his work for the poor and powerless, speaking out against war, economic injustice and political oppression." In 1954 he started teaching a Catholic University.
