This week we have been reading “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.So far we have read up to chapter nine. My opinion on this novel is that it’s an enjoyable read. The main characters are; Jean Louise Finch also known as ‘Scout.’ In the book she is the narrator which means that “To Kill a Mockingbird” is written in second person. Lee doesn’t specifically write it in her book but it seems that Scout values her brother. Her brother, Jeremy Atticus Finch (Jem) is four years older than Scout. Their father is named Atticus Finch; he is a widower and also is a lawyer. Scout and Jem become friends with a boy who visits his aunt during the summer and when he does he hangs out with them. His name is Dill, Charles Baker Harris who is known as Dill. When Scout, Jem and Dill hangout they talk about their neighbors who are the Radley. They think that the Radley’s house is haunted or something is happening in there. They start leaving notes and try getting in the house so “Boo Radley” would come out and play with them. Atticus catching them leaving a note and they all get in trouble. Jem and Scout are polite children and have been raised well. After summer is over Jem and Scout go to school. Scout is in the first grade and Jem is in fifth grade. Scout doesn’t like school. She has been taught writing and reading by her cook Calpurnia and her father. A while later Jem and Scout experience snow for the first time. At first Scout was screaming because she didn’t know how it looked like. That following there was a fire at a neighbor’s house, not the Radley’s house but someone else’s. Most people had their fireplaces on because it was cold and it hasn’t snowed in a long time. The towns people think that when people smoke and argue with each other the weather would change. This isn’t everything that happened in “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
